ONLINE DATABASES & RESOURCES
The library subscribes to hundreds of online databases and resources, which include subject indexes and library catalogs as well as online journals and electronic books. To learn more about databases and resources in your discipline contact a subject librarian or Ask-A-Librarian. For more information on logging in from off campus visit http://oca.ucsc.edu/login. Encyclopedias
Subject encyclopedias are often overlooked as sources. However, they are excellent works of scholarly and authoritative knowledge. They provide students, who are delving into new topics, with a scholarly lens by which to start examining topics. In particular, encyclopedias provide topical overviews that familiarize students with different issues within that subject (useful when students are deciding on a topic), new keywords (especially useful for searching in databases), and bibliographies for further reading specific to that topic.
For a comprehensive search, use the database in your academic discipline or subject to find articles on teaching. For example in Historical Abstracts search the keyphrase "teaching history"

In order to help students view or comple online class assignments in the library, it's sometimes necessary to add special software or plugins to the computers in the library. With advance notice, the library will make every effort to add the appropriate software or plugins. Please submit your request at: http://library.ucsc.edu/services/software_req/.
